Autumn brings a special atmosphere to Engelberg. The meadows glow in warm colours, the mountain peaks seem almost within reach on clear days, and the area around Trübsee becomes quieter.

Families can choose from a variety of hiking options – from leisurely walks suitable for pushchairs to longer trails for children who enjoy hiking. What makes it especially convenient is that some hikes can easily be combined with an activity. This quickly turns a hike into a full day of family fun.

Looking for a little more adventure? Then the Waterfall Circular Trail is a great choice.

The hike starts at the playground at Trübsee and leads to the Stäubi Waterfall. The path to the foot of the waterfall is also accessible with a pushchair from the playground and takes around 15 minutes.

For children, it’s a wonderful combination: play first, then set off together and watch the water along the way before heading back to Trübsee.

The trail is particularly rewarding in autumn for little nature explorers.

For families looking for a longer adventure, the hike from Engelberg via Untertrübsee to Trübsee is a great option.

The route starts in Engelberg and leads via Stapfmattli to Untertrübsee before continuing towards Obertrübsee. Part of the uphill section can also be made easier by taking the Älplerseil cable car. From Obertrübsee, the trail continues along the Alpine Flower Trail to the Trübsee middle station.

This route is particularly well suited to families with older children who enjoy spending a little more time on the trail. And there are plenty of good reasons to take a break along the way: enjoy the views, watch the animals or simply sit on a bench for a moment and take in the peaceful mountain scenery.

For children, a hike can be about much more than simply covering the kilometres. Around Trübsee, hikes can easily be combined with a variety of fun and interactive experiences.

Schmugglis Sbrinz Trail

A particularly great combination is the Schmugglis Sbrinz Trail. Here, the hike becomes a playful adventure: children can set off on an exciting discovery tour, with different play stations providing plenty of variety along the way. The wooden token needed for the play stations is available directly at the ticket counter or at Berghotel Trübsee. This allows parents to relax and enjoy the mountain scenery while the children work their way through one fun challenge after another.

Our tip: Don’t try to fit too much into one day. It’s better to plan a shorter hike with plenty of time for playing than to pack the day with activities and end up with everyone feeling tired.

After a walk around Truebsee or a family adventure in the mountains, a relaxing lunch break is a must.
