This summer, Alexa successfully completes her three-year commercial apprenticeship with TITLIS Cableways, earning her Swiss Federal VET Diploma (EFZ). Over the past three years, Alexa has gained a wealth of experience, both professionally and personally. In addition to her on-the-job training, she attended classes at the vocational school in Stans every Thursday and Friday during the first two years of her apprenticeship. In her third year, lessons took place on Thursdays and were supplemented by an English course on Tuesday evenings. She also spent a total of eighteen days on inter-company courses in Thun, spread throughout her apprenticeship. The commercial apprenticeship at TITLIS Cableways is part of the hospitality and tourism industry.
Alexa really enjoys the diversity and variety of her work. Getting to know other cultures and meeting new people, in particular, shows just how varied the commercial apprenticeship at TITLIS Bergbahnen can be. Thanks to the insights she gained into various areas and departments, Alexa found her training to be a very interesting experience. She spent between 3 and 6 months in a range of departments, including the reservations centre, customer service, the ticket office, accounting, reception at the Hotel Terrace, MICE event planning (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, Exhibitions) and Human Resources (HR).
The whole team across all the different departments was always very friendly and helpful. Alexa also speaks very highly of the support she received from the training team.
Alexa particularly enjoyed all the various staff events that take place regularly. As well as the start and end of the season, there is an annual staff party and various team events, such as a skiing weekend. The ever-changing theme and the chance to meet new people make these events something special for Alexa.
Another highlight of her apprenticeship for Alexa was her language study trip to England. At the start of her second year of apprenticeship, she travelled to Torquay with her class. There, she attended English lessons for two weeks whilst staying with a host family. Alexa thoroughly enjoyed her time in the beautiful town and with her wonderful host family.

Of course, there were also less pleasant moments or tasks that Alexa didn’t particularly enjoy carrying out. These included, for example, dealing with complaints from upset guests.
Alexa also mentions adapting to the new commercial apprenticeship reform as a challenge. She is part of the first year group to have been trained under this reform. For the apprentices, as well as for the teachers and apprenticeship trainers, much of it was very uncertain and represented a major change. It required a great deal of patience and flexibility, especially at the beginning and when preparing for the final qualification process. However, with a bit of time and good communication with everyone involved, Alexa has mastered this challenge very well.
Alexa would choose to do her commercial apprenticeship at TITLIS Cableways again in a heartbeat. She particularly appreciated the variety of tasks and the opportunity to gain experience in many different departments. But the great team and the special working environment in Engelberg also made her apprenticeship a positive experience. Not to mention the many great benefits Alexa enjoyed as an apprentice at TITLIS Cableways. These include not only the free ski pass, but also the TUZ card (Central Switzerland Transport Operators) and other discounts. For Alexa, time flew by, and she is taking many wonderful memories from the last three years with her as she moves on to the next stage of her life.
