For Michael Achermann, who worked at the Panorama-Restaurant for eight years, it is above all the images that stay with him: light-filled rooms, impressive sunrises and sunsets, and the endless expanse of the Alps. «When I think back to my very first moment there, I remember that all-round panorama – from the Gadmer Valley across the Bernese Alps to the lakes in the north. That made an immediate impression on me.»
But it wasn’t just the view that defined this place. It was the interplay between the team, the guests and the special atmosphere of a restaurant at over 3,000 metres. Some days it was hectic, noisy and full of people – and that’s exactly what made the place so special.
The Panorama Restaurant was as varied as its guests. From a quick snack to a cosy dinner, from the self-service area to the pizzeria – the aim here was to offer something for everyone’s tastes. «We wanted to appeal to every guest», says Michael, describing their ambition.
The atmospheric candlelit dinners, which were a fixture for years, remain particularly memorable. These evenings were often quieter than the lively daytime hustle and bustle – and that is precisely what made them special.
At the same time, the place was often bustling and vibrant. Between the group restaurant, shops and various dining concepts, a space emerged that was constantly on the move yet still offered room for special moments.

One thing stands out above all else as we say goodbye to the Panorama Restaurant: gratitude. Our thanks go to the many staff members who have shaped this place over the years. In a year-round operation like the TITLIS, close-knit teams are formed, many of which have grown together over a long period of time.

The guests, too, have played their part in the story. Many were here just once – a special moment on their journey. Others, particularly in the pizzeria or at the candlelit dinners, kept coming back. They brought the place to life and gave it meaning.
What remains are memories. Of intense days, special encounters and the feeling of having been part of something unique.

With the farewell to the TITLIS Panorama Restaurant, a new chapter on the mountain is beginning. Since early June 2026, the TITLIS Tower has been open, enhancing the summit experience with new perspectives, striking architecture, and attractive offerings at over 3,000 metres above sea level. One of its highlights is Joseph’s Restaurant, which welcomes guests with casual fine dining in a stylish setting. More information and reservations are available at www.josephs-restaurant.ch.

The next major milestone will follow in 2029 with the opening of the new TITLIS Peak Station. Plans include a diverse culinary concept featuring a full-service restaurant, a self-service dining area, and dedicated group offerings. These will be complemented by new ideas and experiences designed to make a visit to TITLIS even more attractive while carrying established traditions into the future.
What is particularly exciting is that employees can actively help shape this transformation. This is already creating a strong sense of anticipation and motivation for what lies ahead.
Even though the Panorama Restaurant is closing, what makes the TITLIS so special will remain: the combination of mountain scenery, adventure and culinary delights. Memories of this special place will live on – in stories, pictures and emotions.
At the same time, space is being created for something new. For fresh ideas, new concepts and future moments of enjoyment high above the clouds.
