Welcome to Atelier Hess – at 1,800 metres above sea level. Here, we don’t just serve food, we serve ideas. Inspired by Engelberg pioneer Eugen Hess-Waser, we reinterpret alpine cuisine: fresh, bold, and just a little different. With us, indulgence becomes an adventure.
Alpine classics meet international influences – including Nordic accents. Head Chef Nicholas Lundgren creates dishes that surprise, delight, and are full of character.
Atelier Hess is a place filled with light and ideas. Modern alpine design meets the creative charm of an artist’s studio – open, inspiring, and surrounded by the mountain landscape. Right on the slopes in winter and surrounded by hiking trails in summer: here, a simple lunch becomes an experience.

Our cuisine combines the highest quality with a conscious approach to natural resources. Sustainability is at the heart of our culinary concept – from selecting our producers to the preparation on the plate.
Whenever possible, our ingredients come from Nidwalden and Central Switzerland. By working closely with regional producers, we ensure short transport routes, freshness, and transparency in the origin of our products. Fresh herbs, vegetables, and responsibly sourced meat form the foundation of our dishes.
Our offerings are complemented by carefully selected specialties from around the world that meet high quality and sustainability standards. As a partner of Wasser für Wasser (WfW), we are also committed to the responsible use of the planet’s most precious resource – clean drinking water – and support projects that provide global access to it.
